Charging must be controlled and supervised

Use a charger that supports LiPo chemistry, the correct cell count and the correct charge current. Balance charging is the normal safe routine for multi-cell LiPo packs.

Charge on a non-flammable surface, away from loose paper, fuel, solvents and direct heat. A LiPo charge bag or suitable fire-resistant container is a good habit, but it does not replace supervision.

Storage voltage extends life and reduces risk

LiPo packs should not be stored full or empty for long periods. Use storage charge mode when the pack will not be used soon, and keep packs in a cool dry place away from direct sun.

After flying, let batteries cool before charging. Do not charge a hot pack, a pack with damaged wires, a crushed pack or any pack that smells unusual.

Swelling, damage and over-discharge are warning signs

A swollen LiPo, punctured wrap, crushed corner, hot connector or cell imbalance should be treated seriously. Stop using the pack until it is evaluated safely.

Avoid deep discharge in flight. Set timers, use telemetry when possible and land before the battery is stressed. Over-discharged packs can become unsafe and may not recover reliably.

LiPo safety checklist

  • Correct charger chemistry selected
  • Cell count verified before charging
  • Balance lead connected for balance charge
  • Pack charged on safe surface
  • Battery never left unattended while charging
  • Storage voltage used before long storage
  • Swollen or damaged packs removed from service
  • Connectors and wires inspected regularly

Common questions

Can I leave a LiPo charging unattended?

No. LiPo charging should be supervised so you can stop the process quickly if the pack, charger or connector behaves abnormally.

What should I do with a swollen LiPo?

Stop using it, move it to a safe non-flammable place and follow local safe disposal guidance. Do not puncture or continue flying a swollen pack.

Is a LiPo bag enough by itself?

A charge bag helps reduce risk, but correct charger settings, pack inspection and supervision are still essential.
